Walking the Camino is a transformational experience for many people, but why does it have such a profound effect? After interviewing hundreds of pilgrims, we discovered the 4 elements that contribute to feeling great :) 1. The Earth’s Embrace

Blue skies, clear streams, rolling hills and quaint stone bridges are all features of the Camino de Santiago. You can expect to hear birds singing, rivers flowing, and trees rustling in the wind.

Being in nature is hugely beneficial for both the body and mind. It reduces cortisol (stress hormone), lowers blood pressure and calms the mental rumination of agitated thoughts.

Humans are genetically designed to be in tune with nature, and our modern lifestyle often pulls us away from that. Connecting with it again is the perfect way to recharge.

2. An Air of Clarity

"I can't hear myself think", is something my mother used to say when we were rowdy kids. Our shouting, fighting and constant need for attention could be exhausting (I can see it clearer now than I did back then!).

Of course, you don't need toddlers to have moments when you feel overwhelmed. Daily life is filled with challenges, decisions and deadlines, making it hard to catch a moment to rest and contemplate the many important aspects of life.

An open road, space for free-flowing thoughts and the freedom to entertain silly fantasies or serious life decisions is what makes the Camino truly great (In my opinion!).

3. The Fire of Connection

Few people start the Camino to "meet new people". Yet, when asked, "What was the highlight of your experience?" almost everyone mentions the people they met along the way.

Connecting with strangers is a big part of the Camino experience. It's amazing how walking with someone can quickly bond you closer together. Stories shared, challenges endured, and vulnerable conversations can make a few hours/days feel like a lifelong friendship.

What's even better? New people don't have any preconceived notion of who you are. You won't need to behave in a certain way. You can be totally yourself, whether reconnecting with the old or discovering the new!

4. The Resilience of Water

"It's the journey, not the destination". We hear this all the time while interviewing pilgrims, and it's very true!

Yet many people share that stepping outside their comfort zone, going solo and pushing through challenging moments gave them a sense of accomplishment and a feeling they're ready to embrace the next stage of life!

That's it!

Nothing complicated. Instead, it's quite the opposite. Simplicity is bliss.

Bonus - The food is great, and you burn off the calories walking anyway!!
